Advocate Opportunities
Crisis Line Advocate:
Advocates answer the 24-hour Crisis Line working directly with victims of domestic and sexual violence, providing a listening ear, referrals, and information. Advocates also provide medical and legal accompaniment and crisis intervention when needed. Being and advocate requires a high level of volunteer dedication.
*A special need exist for Spanish speaking advocates.
Must complete the 48-hour DCRC Advocate Training
Must sign up for three shifts per month
Must attend a monthly volunteer meeting
Must be wiling to make a 1 year commitment to DCRC
Child Care Advocate:
Provide care and special activities for children during a planned morning, afternoon, or evening in the shelter. We have a special need for childcare advocates during our weekly, early evening support groups in Durham. During these support groups, volunteers provide childcare so that women who have children can easily attend.
Requirements:
Community Educator:
Provide and promote education, prevention and awareness about sexual and domestic violence to various community groups (schools, churches, etc.).
Requirements:
Assist Legal Advocates in the courthouse with criminal and civil court. Volunteer Legal Advocates helps prepare clients for cout and advocate on their behalf in the court system.
